Field Day: An annual amateur radio exercise, widely sponsored by IARU regions and member organizations, encouraging emergency communications preparedness among amateur radio operators.

fixed station: An amateur radio station established in a permanent structure with equipment that is not intended for portable operation.

Frequency Modulation (FM): A method of transmitting information over a carrier wave by varying its frequency.

ham radio: Another inform term for amateur radio.

International Amateur Radio Union (IARU): An international confederation of national amateur radio organizations founded in 1925 in which members work to resolve common matters of concern. The IARU also collectively represents matters to the International Telecommunications Union.

international broadcasting: Any type of broadcasting deliberately aimed at a foreign, rather than domestic, audience. It can be broadcasted via longwave, mediumwave or shortwave radio.
